Date sorting only correct for US-style dates (other formats sort as text)

Sorting a date column currently only works reliably when dates are shown in US format (MM/DD/YY) or ISO format (2024-03-17). Dates in other regional formats, like DD/MM/YYYY or DD.MM.YYYY (used in Europe and most of the world), get sorted as text instead of as dates. For example, rows end up ordered by day of the month. Date filtering is not affected. It already works with all regional formats.
